Kennard-Dale senior becomes all-time goals leader in PA girls’ lacrosse

Morgan Day

Kennard-Dale’s Football stadium was buzzing with excitement Tuesday for the Rams Girls Lacrosse game against New Oxford. This was not just any game – it was a chance for senior, Morgan Day, to reach Pennsylvania’s all-time scoring record. Decorated in blue and yellow, balloons, the fence lining the stadium set the tone for Day’s momentous occasion.   The four-year starter for the Rams needed just eight goals to attain the coveted accolade in her high school lacrosse career. Day surpassed her goal with a total of 10, bringing the Rams to a 24-11 win against New Oxford and the This victory marked the close of an undefeated regular season for Kennard-Dale.   Celebrating with Day was her friend and teammate, Lyndsey Duty. The two have played together since they were in fourth grade. They didn’t hit it off initially, however, because Day found Duty’s personality a bit intimidating. "I was scared of Lyndsey, but now everyone calls us 'Batman and Robin,'" Day said. "I owe a lot of my goals to Lyndsey, so it was only right to have her on this one as well." Next year, the longtime friends will be playing at different colleges, but plan to meet up for the next milestone. Duty will be attending Old Dominion, while Day heads to St. Francis. "Not only is she my best friend on the field but off the field, too," Duty said. "Next year, I'm going to have to get used to new people."   Day’s father and Kennard-Dale assistant coach, Kevin Day cheered on his team and daughter as the Rams worked their offense. “Get that ball to Duty,” he shouted, while Day and Duty worked together with a sense of ease and precision.   With a week until the Rams’ next game, which opens the YAIAA tournament, Day has some time to recoup. Their 16th win wraps up the YAIAA regular-season title. Kennard-Dale head coach, Kelly Wetzel couldn't be more proud. "She's not just playing it, she gets the game," he says. "It's amazing to be a part of the record she achieved."   Day isn't far from the national record of 459, set last year in North Carolina by Megan Shortt of Bishop McGuiness High School.
