Greenwich holds off Trumbull's comeback in an 11-7 victory

Year in and year out, Greenwich High School’s lacrosse program is used to be on top.  That is why the Cardinals were in familiar territory when they led 5-0 over Trumbull after the first quarter of their season opener. Unlike many of Greenwich’s opponents, Trumbull did not back down after the Connecticut giant dealt its early blow.  The Golden Eagles fought back and during the third quarter, managed to tie the game a 6-6. Greenwich added on two goals before the fourth to take an 8-6 lead into the final stanza.  The Cardinals managed to hold of Trumbull throughout the quarter and ended the game with 11-7. Midfielder Will Perry led Greenwich with four goals and an assist.  Attackmen Matt Baugher and Michael Sands each added on two more scores. Trumbull’s Sam Watson finished with a game-high five goals to accompany his assist, but Greenwich managed to hold off the rest of the Golden Eagles. After an eventful game, Greenwich has its first of what will surely be many wins.  The defending Class L champions currently rank 2nd in Connecticut and 13 in the DigitalSports National Lacrosse Rankings. The Cardinals next challenge comes at the hands of New York’s Smithtown East, ranked 19th in the nation, on April 11.
