Mustang defeats Oklahoma rivals Edmond Memorial
Two of Oklahoma’s best basketball programs faced off when Mustang, ranked 62nd in the DigitalSports National Basketball Rankings and 2nd in the state, faced Edmond Memorial, 71st in the country and 4th in the state. Faced with foul trouble early in the second quarter, Mustang was forced to turn to its bench. The Broncos’ backups did not disappoint. Junior Kejuan Frazier scored nine of his 11 points in the second quarter alone. After a hard battled first half, Mustang held a 42-35 lead, following Karl Madison’s last-second three-pointer. Memorial worked its way back into the game, only trailing 53-51 by the end of the third quarter. The Bulldogs could not keep up the pace in the fourth quarter, as Mustang eventually closed out the game with a 72-64 victory. Offensively, Jakolby Long led the Broncos with a team-high 20 points, followed by fellow junior Curtis Haywood with 12 points. On the other side of the ball, Mustang’s defensive combined for an impressive effort, forcing 23 turnovers. This victory maintains Mustang’s undefeated record. Now 11-0, the Broncos get back on court on January 22 to play Dallas HSAA Blue at the Altus, OK 43rd Annual Invitational.
